Vanoss High Graduates Record 49 Students in Ada Ceremony

A small Oklahoma high school just celebrated its biggest graduating class in years, and the joy was impossible to contain.

Vanoss High School hosted commencement ceremonies Friday at East Central University's Ataloa Theater in Ada, where 49 students walked across the stage to receive their diplomas. For a small rural school, that number represents an unusually large class and a wonderful problem to have.

The celebration filled nearly every seat in the theater with proud parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends. Students in red and white gowns (a Vanoss tradition where girls wear white and boys wear red) gathered in the lobby beforehand, snapping selfies and adjusting their tassels while anticipation built.

The school had to move the ceremony to ECU's Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center because their usual venue, the Kerr Activities Center, wasn't available. But the beautiful Ataloa Theater turned out to be a perfect fit for the occasion.

Moments before walking into the theater, graduate Jasmine Savage waited nervously for her classmates. Graduate Regina Ramsey showed her personality by wearing Converse All Stars under her graduation gown. Hershel Sanders fidgeted with his tassel during the ceremony, capturing the nervous excitement every graduate feels.
