Vatican Partners with Elli for Electric Fleet Charging

One of the world's smallest countries is making a big move toward sustainable transportation with cutting-edge technology.

The Vatican has selected Elli Mobility, Volkswagen Group's energy and charging brand, to power its expanding electric vehicle fleet. Through Elli's charging card and digital platform, Vatican service vehicles can now access over one million public charging points across Europe while administrators track costs and energy use from a central dashboard.

The partnership represents real progress in the Vatican's ambitious sustainability strategy. The tiny city-state aims to convert its entire vehicle fleet to climate-neutral mobility by 2030, and it's already well on its way.

In 2024, the Vatican added nearly 40 fully electric Volkswagen ID. vehicles to its fleet, followed by additional electric utility vehicles in 2025. Now, with Elli's infrastructure in place, drivers can charge easily during official travel beyond Vatican territory while enjoying transparent pricing for all charging types.

The digital fleet management platform, Elli Fleet Charging, gives Vatican administrators powerful tools to monitor charging activities, assign cards digitally, and export data for accounting. This level of operational control turns sustainability ambitions into daily reality.

The Vatican's choice reflects a broader European shift. Corporate fleets account for about two thirds of all new vehicle registrations across the continent, making fleet electrification one of the most effective ways to cut operational carbon emissions.
