Vegas Completes Historic 3-Goal Comeback in Playoff Win

Down three goals in the first period of a Western Conference Final game, the Vegas Golden Knights refused to quit and pulled off the franchise's first-ever three-goal playoff comeback Sunday night.

The Colorado Avalanche jumped to a stunning 3-0 lead in the opening period at T-Mobile Arena. But Vegas responded with four unanswered goals, eventually winning 5-3 to take a 3-0 stranglehold on the series.

Mark Stone sparked the comeback just 19 seconds into the second period with a power play goal. William Karlsson made it 3-2 minutes later, burying a rebound in the slot.

Keegan Kolesar completed the comeback, tipping a point shot off the post and backhanding it in to tie the game at three. The crowd of 18,212 erupted as Vegas erased the entire deficit in one period.

Tomas Hertl gave Vegas their first lead of the night early in the third period with a gorgeous backhand goal. The game-winner marked his first playoff game-winning goal since joining the Golden Knights.

Brett Howden sealed it with an empty-net goal from Vegas' own blue line in the final minute. Goaltender Carter Hart made 32 saves, including 19 in the final two periods to preserve the comeback.

This comeback represents more than just one playoff win. The Golden Knights became just the 10th team in NHL history to take a 3-0 series lead against a Presidents' Trophy winner, the league's best regular season team.

Mitch Marner continued his remarkable playoffs, notching two assists and becoming just the fifth player in NHL history to collect at least 14 assists in his first 15 postseason games with a team. His playmaking has been crucial to Vegas' playoff run.
