Vietnam and Germany Partner on AI and Green Tech

Vietnam is joining forces with one of Europe's most innovative nations to fast-track its digital and green transformation.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung spent four days in Berlin meeting with German leaders, tech giants, and innovation hubs to build partnerships in AI, automation, and clean energy. The trip focused on areas where Germany excels and Vietnam needs support most: smart manufacturing, digital transformation, and sustainable technology.

The results came quickly. Vietnam's National Innovation Centre signed an agreement with the Technical University of Berlin's Centre for Entrepreneurship to collaborate on training, research, and startup support. The partnership will help Vietnamese universities and research institutes tap into Germany's decades of experience building successful tech ecosystems.

Major German corporations including SAP, Siemens Healthineers, Bosch, and Trumpf met with the Vietnamese delegation to discuss expanding their presence in Southeast Asia. Deputy PM Dung invited these firms to establish research and development centers in Vietnam, positioning the country as a hub for innovation in the region.

Germany's Vice President of the Bundestag Bodo Ramelow praised Vietnam's recent National Party Congress and expressed confidence in the country's development strategies. Both nations agreed to strengthen coordination at international forums and uphold international law, particularly regarding maritime cooperation.

The visit included a special session with Vietnamese intellectuals and entrepreneurs living across Europe. This diaspora community of around 300,000 people shared insights on Germany's AI applications in healthcare, construction, high-speed rail, and energy storage. They proposed new ways to connect Vietnamese talent worldwide to support development back home.

The Ripple Effect

This partnership matters beyond just two countries. Vietnam represents a growing Southeast Asian market hungry for sustainable technology solutions, while Germany brings proven expertise in green innovation and Industry 4.0 manufacturing. Their collaboration creates a model for how developed and developing nations can work together on climate and tech challenges.

The cooperation also strengthens ties between Vietnamese communities abroad and their home country. By creating bridges for knowledge transfer, both nations benefit from the expertise of diaspora scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs who understand both cultures.

Deputy PM Dung emphasized Vietnam's commitment to removing barriers for foreign investment and implementing breakthrough reforms in institutions, infrastructure, and human resources. Science, technology, and innovation now sit at the foundation of Vietnam's economic strategy.
