Virginia Offshore Wind Farm Reaches 85% Completion

Feel Good

America’s largest clean energy project on the ocean is moving forward with inspiring momentum. Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind is now 85 percent complete, delivering cleaner air and massive pocketbook savings to residents.

Off the coast of Virginia, towering clean energy giants are rising from the sea to power a brighter future. Dominion Energy has officially reached 85 percent completion on its historic Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, marking a thrilling leap forward for American renewable power.

Crews have already installed 44 massive turbines, with work actively progressing on turbine number 45. All the blades, towers, and nacelles needed for the entire 176-turbine array are already manufactured and ready for assembly.

The offshore farm has connected 640 megawatts of generation capacity to the grid since first producing power this spring. Once finished, the colossal 2.6-gigawatt facility will stand as the largest offshore wind installation in the United States and one of the biggest on Earth.

Specialized maritime crews now assemble each colossal turbine in just two days from jack-up to jack-down. Dominion is also on schedule to energize its third and final offshore substation before the year ends, keeping the project on track for full operation in 2027.

The economic news is just as energizing as the engineering feat. Dominion lowered its projected levelized cost of energy from an initial forecast of up to $90 per megawatt-hour down to a budget-friendly $62.

The Ripple Effect

This ocean-powered powerhouse will deliver an estimated $5 billion in fuel savings to utility customers over its first ten years of operation. As power demands expand from modern digital infrastructure, this steady Atlantic breeze will protect household budgets from volatile fossil fuel costs.

The project demonstrates that massive green infrastructure can overcome early hurdles and rapidly drive down consumer costs. Each spinning turbine represents clean, reliable energy, local maritime careers, and a resilient coastline for future generations to enjoy.

With ocean breezes transforming into affordable clean electricity every day, Virginia is showing the world how bright our renewable horizon can be.
