Virginia's 5 New Solar Projects Will Power 5,000 Homes

Thousands of Virginia families will soon save money on their electricity bills without lifting a finger, thanks to a partnership bringing affordable solar power directly to their homes.

Altus Power just acquired five community solar projects from New Leaf Energy that will generate enough clean electricity for approximately 5,000 homes across Virginia. The best part? Residents don't need to install rooftop panels or handle any maintenance to benefit.

The 32-megawatt portfolio will operate under Appalachian Power Company's shared solar program, which was designed to protect residents from rising electricity costs. Participating households and businesses receive solar bill credits that translate into direct savings each month.

"Virginia has made a clear commitment to protecting ratepayers from rising electricity costs through the expansion of clean, incremental power," said Abhi Parmar, Chief Investment Officer at Altus Power. The timing couldn't be better as energy prices continue climbing nationwide.

Community solar works by allowing multiple households to share the benefits of a single solar installation. Renters, homeowners, and people who can't afford rooftop panels all get access to clean energy savings through simple credits on their utility bills.

Altus Power currently serves more than 40,000 subscribers across 30 states and the District of Columbia, with over 1.4 gigawatts of solar generation already operating. Each new project helps prove that clean energy can be both accessible and affordable for everyday families.
