Volleyball Team Helps Stranger's Viral Pier Proposal

Sometimes the best wedding stories start with people you've never met.

Trent Clinton Sr., 25, wanted to make his April 11 proposal unforgettable for Faith Espinosa, 26, at Jackson Street Pier in Sandusky, Ohio. What he didn't plan was that a group of complete strangers would turn his romantic gesture into a moment that would touch millions.

Espinosa thought she was heading to a fish fry with friends. Her mother, cousin, best friend, and Clinton's aunt had gathered for what seemed like a casual evening with a "dress to impress" theme.

As she walked toward the pier, Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are" began playing. A little girl sitting on a concrete bench complimented her beauty and handed her a single red rose.

Then another child did the same. And another, and another.

Espinosa looked up to see a long line of smiling strangers, all holding red roses with outstretched hands. "That was the moment it clicked that this was my special day unfolding right in front of me," she tells PEOPLE.

The helpers were members of Air City Chix, a girls' volleyball club from Beavercreek, Ohio, in town for a tournament. After their game, they stopped by the pier to grab food and noticed Clinton's family preparing for something special.

Clinton's mother and godmother had extra roses and asked if the team wanted to be part of the proposal instead of just watching. The girls eagerly agreed.

"Even through all the tears and emotions, I made it my mission to thank each and every person who personally handed me a rose while I was walking toward Trent," Espinosa says. "Every single person helped create a memory I will cherish forever."

The proposal video exploded on TikTok with over 8 million views and 2 million likes after Espinosa posted it on April 14. Her caption perfectly captured the surprise: "Watch me realize that this is MY proposal!"
