Volunteers Furnish Home for Former Foster Child in Florida

✨ Faith Restored

Victorious Hawthorne-Charles walked into her new house to find dozens of volunteers transforming empty rooms into a fully furnished home. The former foster child received the surprise through Place of Hope's partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

When Victorious Hawthorne-Charles received the keys to her new West Palm Beach home, she opened the door to empty rooms and bare walls. Hours later, dozens of volunteers had transformed that empty space into a fully furnished home where she and her son could start fresh.

Hawthorne-Charles recently aged out of the foster care system after growing up at Place of Hope, a Florida foster care organization. She became the seventh young adult to receive a home through Place of Hope's partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

On move-in day, volunteers arrived with sofas, beds, kitchenware, decorations, and household essentials. They filled every room from the living room to her son's bedroom, creating a complete home in a single day.

"Originally there was nothing, so we're literally furnishing everything," Hawthorne-Charles said. The surprise reminded her that even after leaving the foster care system, she still has a community supporting her.

Sunny's Take

For many young adults aging out of foster care, the transition to independence can feel isolating and overwhelming. This moment shows what's possible when organizations and volunteers work together to provide not just housing, but a real home.

Lisa McDulin with Place of Hope captured the spirit perfectly: "It's such a blessing to be able to bless her." The volunteers gave their time, energy, and talent to help a young mother establish stability for her family.

Hawthorne-Charles stood in her newly furnished home surrounded by people who chose to show up for her. "God is real, and community is so important," she said. "Just to see the support from everyone, the love...it's amazing."

The partnership between Place of Hope and Habitat for Humanity continues creating pathways for former foster children to build stable lives with community support behind them.
