Volunteers Refresh 8 Classrooms Across NC County
Community volunteers from six organizations joined forces to brighten eight classrooms in Transylvania County, North Carolina, giving teachers and students a fresh start for the new school year. The project shows how small acts of service can create welcoming learning spaces for kids.
Teachers and students in Transylvania County, North Carolina will walk into eight freshly painted, updated classrooms this fall, thanks to neighbors who showed up to help.
Volunteers from Pisgah Forest Rotary, Good Trouble Transylvania, SparkPoint, the Transylvania County Schools Educational Foundation, Looking Glass Realty, and Dogwood Health Trust gathered recently to refresh classrooms across five schools. The makeovers touched Brevard Elementary, Pisgah Forest Elementary, Davidson River School, T.C. Henderson Elementary, and Rosman Middle School.
The groups didn't just slap on paint and leave. They worked together to create welcoming, supportive spaces where kids can feel comfortable and ready to learn.
"Every time our community comes together to support our public schools, the real impact is felt by our students," said Andrea Townson, executive director of the Transylvania County Schools Educational Foundation. Making sure teachers feel prepared and excited helps create environments where kids can feel confident from day one.
The Ripple Effect

When volunteers paint a classroom, they're doing more than updating walls. They're sending a message to teachers that their work matters and showing students that their community cares about their success.
The project demonstrates what becomes possible when organizations pool their resources and time. Six different groups with different missions found common ground in supporting local public schools.
Sherwin-Williams joined the effort by providing discounted paint, making the budget stretch further across all eight classrooms. That partnership meant more rooms could get the refresh they needed.
The Educational Foundation, an independent nonprofit, focuses on giving students, teachers, and schools what they need to thrive. This classroom project fits perfectly into that mission.
"Anything we can do to make this school year feel a little less stressful and a little more fun for everyone, the better," Townson said. The volunteers proved that even relatively small projects can make a meaningful difference in a student's daily experience at school.
When kids return to these eight classrooms, they'll walk into spaces that look and feel cared for, just like them.
