Volvo Celebrates 100 Years with Electric Semi Truck

When a company hits its 100th birthday, it could rest on its laurels or keep pushing forward. Volvo chose the latter, launching a special-edition electric semi truck that shows how far transportation has come.

The Volvo FH16 Electric 100 Year Edition isn't just a pretty face with anniversary badges. This electric workhorse delivers up to 730 horsepower from advanced electric motors powered by a massive battery pack that can haul cargo for up to 250 miles on a single charge.

The special edition features a striking two-tone paint job with tan striping that matches the leather details inside. When drivers open the door, LED lights project the 100 Year Edition logo onto the ground like a premium car, while the cabin glows with switchable red and white mood lighting.

Volvo didn't skimp on the thoughtful touches. The premium leather seat base features embroidered anniversary badging, and even the sleeper cab curtains tell a story, displaying a timeline of key Volvo truck models from the past century. 3D-printed speaker grilles and illuminated doorsteps round out the upgrades.

The truck can recharge from 20% to 80% in about an hour at charging stations, meaning drivers can top off while loading cargo or switching shifts. This practical approach to electric trucking helps fleet operators transition to cleaner technology without major workflow disruptions.

Volvo's commitment to electrifying its heavy-duty truck lineup shows how major manufacturers are taking climate action seriously. Every electric semi that replaces a diesel truck eliminates tons of emissions over its lifetime, and when legacy brands like Volvo make this shift, they bring their entire supply chain and customer base along for the ride.

The company also signals its confidence in the future. By celebrating 100 years while launching electric technology, Volvo demonstrates that sustainability and tradition can work together, not against each other.

Jan Hjelmgren, Volvo Trucks' Head of Product Management, says the special edition represents "the result of 100 years' worth of continual improvement in safety, quality, driver comfort, productivity, fuel efficiency and emissions saving."
