Wales Legend Aaron Ramsey Retires After Inspiring Career

Aaron Ramsey announced his retirement this week, closing a chapter on one of Welsh football's most inspiring stories. The midfielder overcame devastating setbacks to become what former Wales manager Chris Coleman calls "the best Welsh midfielder ever."

Ramsey's path wasn't easy. A horrific leg break at age 19 threatened to end his career before it truly began. Then came the death of his mentor, Wales manager Gary Speed, before Ramsey turned 21.

But Ramsey didn't just survive those dark moments. He flourished.

He scored winning goals in two FA Cup finals for Arsenal, lighting up 11 years in north London with moments of pure magic. His thunderous volley against Fenerbahce and the divine team goal at Fulham became instant classics.

With Wales, he reached another level entirely. The summer of 2016 saw Ramsey's peroxide blonde hair everywhere as he conducted Wales' midfield to the European Championship semi-finals, their first major tournament in 58 years.

"We were blessed to have Rambo and Bale together," says former teammate Joe Ledley. "Aaron went under the radar at times, but we could see how good an influence he was. When you needed it, he was always there."
