Wales Star Aaron Ramsey Pursues Coaching Dream After Arteta

Aaron Ramsey has hung up his boots with a new dream in mind: winning trophies from the touchline just like his former Arsenal teammate Mikel Arteta.

The 35-year-old Welsh football legend is now studying for his pro coaching license through the Football Association of Wales, the same path Arteta took a decade ago. Watching Arteta lead Arsenal to their first Premier League title since 2004 and into this weekend's Champions League final has shown Ramsey exactly what's possible.

"It is inspiring because Mikel was here around 10 years ago, in the same position starting his journey," Ramsey said. "That's inspiring for us, to see him 10 years later, lifting the Premier League and in the Champions League final."

The two spent five years together at Arsenal between 2011 and 2016, building a friendship that extends beyond the pitch. Ramsey won three FA Cups during his 11 years with the Gunners but never quite captured the league title that eluded Arsenal for two decades.

Seeing Arteta end that drought this season meant the world to him. "I am really pleased for him, I know the amount of work he's put in and the dedication he has to making sure that he gives absolutely everything," Ramsey said.

Ramsey's playing career spanned 19 years, taking him from boyhood club Cardiff City to Arsenal, then Juventus, Rangers, Nice, and finally Mexican side Pumas UNAM. He became one of Wales' greatest players, scoring 21 goals in 86 international appearances and representing his country at three major tournaments.

He briefly managed Cardiff as interim boss earlier this year and has been working unofficially with the Wales national team staff in recent months. Now he feels ready for the next chapter.

Ramsey's journey shows that greatness isn't just about what you achieve on the field. His willingness to start from scratch, studying alongside younger coaches and learning a completely new craft, demonstrates the kind of humility that made him a great player.

He's not looking for shortcuts or relying on his famous name. He's putting in the work, just like Arteta did before him.

"I want to win all the big things in the game," Ramsey said about his coaching ambitions. "That's the goal, that's the target, to get as good as I can to make that a reality."

After nearly two decades of giving everything for the sport, Ramsey could easily have retired to a quiet life. Instead, he's choosing purpose over comfort because, as he puts it, "it's not in my DNA to just put my feet up."

The coaching world just gained a student who knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
