West Virginia Scholarships Honor Local Heroes' Legacies

For the third straight year, Appalachian Impact is putting hope into action with $4,000 in scholarships named after people who made their West Virginia community brighter.

The organization, partnering with The Band of Brothers, created four $1,000 awards that honor real local heroes. Each scholarship tells a story of service, resilience, and love for community.

The Russ and Debbie Bush Hope Scholarship will support one male and one female student who've faced tough times but kept moving forward. Russ Bush was Appalachian Impact's first mentor and helped shape the organization's heart alongside his wife Debbie, both known throughout Buckhannon for choosing joy and service.

The Dorse Gillum Man of Kindness Scholarship remembers a man of deep faith and compassion. It will go to a male student committed to serving his community and creating positive change.

The Steve and Kathy Foster Woman of Strength Scholarship celebrates a couple who dedicated themselves to making their town better for everyone. The award seeks a female student who embodies their values of service, resilience, and determination.

Students pursuing traditional college or vocational school can both apply. The deadline is April 10, and winners will be announced at the Senior Awards ceremony in May.

These scholarships do something special beyond financial support. They keep the memory of community builders alive while investing in the next generation of helpers and leaders.
