West Virginia Volunteers Clean 15 Miles of Trails

When volunteers gathered at Buckhannon Upshur High School on a spring morning, they weren't just picking up trash. They were reclaiming 15 miles of community trails that connect neighbors to nature.

Rachel Weber and dozens of other Upshur County residents grabbed trash bags and picker tools to tackle areas where litter had piled up. The cleanup served double duty: making the trails beautiful again while preparing them for an upcoming mountain bike race.

Weber sees the cleanup as more than just removing trash. "It's a great asset for this community," she said, explaining that she hopes to see more people using and protecting the trail system.
