Westfield Awards $130K in Scholarships to 86 Seniors
A small Indiana town just handed out nearly $130,000 in scholarships to 86 high school seniors, proving that when communities invest in their kids, everyone wins. The Westfield Education Foundation celebrated its 40th year of opening doors for graduates heading into everything from engineering to the skilled trades.
Eighty-six graduating seniors from Westfield High School walked away from Awards Night with nearly $130,000 in scholarships, thanks to neighbors, businesses, and families who believe in their futures. That's about 12 percent of the entire Class of 2026 getting a financial boost as they head off to college, trade schools, and career programs.
The Westfield Education Foundation has been doing this work for 40 years, and Executive Director Ashley Knott says every scholarship represents someone who cares. "Behind every award is a donor, family, business, or community member who believes in students and wants to invest in their future," she explained at the ceremony.
These aren't cookie-cutter college prep scholarships either. The 54 different awards support students pursuing all kinds of paths: healthcare workers, construction managers, teachers, engineers, and skilled tradespeople. Recipients are heading to schools across Indiana and beyond, including Purdue, Indiana University, Butler, Boston University, and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Superintendent Dr. John Atha pointed out that the money matters, but the message matters more. "These scholarships represent more than financial support, they reflect the belief, encouragement, and our commitment to helping students pursue their goals," he said.
The Ripple Effect
Since 1986, the Foundation has awarded more than 1,300 scholarships while also funding nearly 600 teacher grants across Westfield schools. That sustained commitment has created a culture where students see their community actively rooting for their success, not just with words but with real dollars.
Now the Foundation is already looking ahead to the Class of 2027, seeking new partners to support emerging fields students care about: pharmaceutical sciences, artificial intelligence, psychology, environmental sciences, and more. Community members who want to establish scholarships can connect with the Foundation to help shape the next generation.
Knott summed it up perfectly: "When we invest in students, we invest in the future of Westfield." That vision, launched by founding board members in 1986, keeps proving itself year after year as graduates spread across the country carrying their hometown's confidence with them.
