Weyburn Firefighters Raise Funds for Training Facility

The Weyburn Firefighters Association turned a Saturday night into something special, hosting their Ignite the Night Cabaret that packed the local Exhibition Hall with neighbors ready to celebrate their hometown heroes.

Live music from Moody Hollow kept guests dancing into the early morning while three food trucks fed the crowd. A silent auction featuring donated items from local businesses had patrons bidding throughout the night.

"I've had non-stop remarks about the band, like how great they were," said Paid On-Call Firefighter Jola Erb. "People came out and had a good time."

The event was truly a community effort. Volunteers from The Family Place handled ticket sales while firefighters themselves worked behind the bar, creating a neighborly atmosphere that went beyond typical fundraising.

The dedication didn't stop there. That same Saturday morning, the crew was up early for the Hearts on the Run event at Jubilee Park before setting up for the cabaret. After the last guest left and the lights went out, they returned Sunday morning to clean up.

The Ripple Effect

The money raised goes toward finishing and maintaining the fire department's training structure, built on the old roundhouse site. This isn't just about construction. It's about giving volunteer firefighters the tools they need to protect their community.

The nearly completed structure allows firefighters to practice with smoke machines, creating realistic scenarios they might face when rushing into a burning building. That hands-on experience could mean the difference between life and death when seconds count.

"Being able to use that, and get actual hands-on training, and actually get the sense of what you're walking into," Erb explained. The structure helps the department purchase equipment and supplies to keep their volunteers prepared.

These aren't full-time firefighters. They're neighbors who work other jobs and sacrifice weekends to train, fundraise, and stay ready to help when disaster strikes.

The Association already has more fundraising ideas in the works, showing their commitment to maintaining top-notch skills and equipment for the town of Weyburn.
