Wilmington NICU Reunion Unites Families This September

Families who've watched their tiniest fighters grow stronger in neonatal intensive care will finally have a chance to celebrate together.

The NICU Family Collective is hosting Wilmington's first NICU Reunion on September 20 at Plaza on Princess. The free event brings together families, healthcare providers, and supporters connected to Betty H. Cameron Women's & Children's Hospital NICU at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. during NICU Awareness Month, the reunion gives NICU graduates and their families a space to reconnect and celebrate milestones. It's designed for parents who share a unique journey that others often struggle to understand.

"NICU families often leave the hospital with an incredible amount of gratitude, but also with a story that can be difficult for others to fully understand," says founder Ellison Clark. "The NICU Reunion is a chance for families to come together and celebrate that shared experience."

The event will feature family activities and opportunities for parents to connect with others who've walked the same challenging path. Families can also commemorate their NICU experiences and thank the providers who cared for their babies during the most vulnerable weeks or months of their lives.

The Ripple Effect

The NICU Family Collective does more than host reunions. This independent nonprofit supports families connected to the hospital's NICU year-round with caregiver meals, peer mentorship, and educational materials.
