These structures aren't creating copies of existing reef communities. They're forming something distinct, though scientists don't yet know if they'll eventually match natural reefs or remain their own unique ecosystems.
The ecological boost stays local, concentrated within a tight radius of each turbine. Whether New York's foundations follow Taiwan's path depends on which species live nearby, water depth, seafloor conditions, and time.
Right now, researchers are pulling crab trap samples twice monthly from commercial lobster boats at South Fork and Revolution Wind sites. The data isn't complete yet, but the clues point toward something promising happening beneath the waves.
