Wisconsin Teen Shatters State Record in 200-Meter Dash

Juliana Doerner crossed the finish line at 24.04 seconds and instantly became part of Wisconsin track history. The Mishicot athlete shattered the Division 3 state meet record in the 200-meter dash on June 6, claiming gold in front of cheering crowds at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.

But Doerner wasn't done. She added a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.15 seconds, proving her speed wasn't a one-time miracle.

The WIAA state track and field championships turned into a celebration for Manitowoc and Sheboygan county athletes. Over two days in early June, students from small towns across Wisconsin competed for their shot at glory.

Kohler's Maggie Behler took home two medals, placing third in the 3,200 meters and sixth in the 1,600. Sheboygan Falls junior Nora Halverson earned medals in both the long jump and triple jump.

Carter Zimmermann from Kohler soared to a silver medal in the boys high jump, clearing 6 feet 5 inches. Howards Grove's Odin Schulz grabbed fourth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.08 seconds.

The Ripple Effect

Small-town athletics programs often fly under the radar, but these championships prove what dedicated coaching and determined students can achieve together. Towns with populations in the thousands produced state record holders and medal winners who now inspire the next generation of athletes.
