Wisconsin Wind Farm to Power 100,000 Homes by 2028

Wisconsin is getting its biggest wind farm yet, and it's bringing both clean power and good jobs to Columbia County.

Alliant Energy just filed plans for a 277-megawatt wind farm that would generate enough electricity to power more than 100,000 Wisconsin homes. The Madison-based company expects to finish construction by the end of 2028, pending approval from the Public Service Commission early next year.

The project will install more than 40 turbines across Columbia County. During construction, the wind farm will create between 100 and 150 jobs for workers in the area.

Alliant has already partnered with Nordex, a Chicago-based turbine manufacturer that recently restarted production of its most powerful turbines at an Iowa facility. This partnership ensures the wind farm will use cutting-edge technology to maximize energy output.

The new wind farm will add to Wisconsin's growing renewable energy capacity, which currently stands at nearly 4,000 megawatts. Alliant currently operates more than 1,800 megawatts of renewable energy generation across its service area.
