Woman Honored for Pulling Driver From Burning Car

When two cars collided and burst into flames at a busy Lisbon intersection on April 27, MacKenzie Lewis didn't hesitate. She ran to the burning wreckage and pulled driver Melissa Ieropoli to safety.

The Lisbon Village Council honored Lewis this week with a proclamation for bravery and selflessness. Mayor Peter Wilson presented the recognition while Ieropoli herself attended to personally thank the woman who saved her life.

The crash happened at 4:57 p.m. at South Lincoln Avenue and West Lincoln Way when another driver turned left into Ieropoli's path. The impact caused both vehicles to catch fire immediately, trapping Ieropoli inside her Toyota Highlander.

Lewis acted in those critical seconds when every moment counted. She reached Ieropoli before emergency crews arrived and got her out of the burning vehicle.

Ieropoli was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The other driver and his passenger walked away uninjured, though police cited the driver for a right-of-way violation.
