Woman Leaves Doomsday Church, Builds New Life at 27

After 27 years of believing she'd never grow old, Bek Condello finally let herself imagine a future.

She grew up in the Geelong Revival Centre in Australia, a strict Pentecostal church where children were taught the world could end at any moment. Members couldn't have friends outside the church, and girls were expected to become young wives and mothers.

Bek was homeschooled until age 10 and required to pray for an hour each day. Dating anyone outside the church was forbidden, and many girls married the first boy they ever dated.

At 27, Bek made the difficult decision to leave. The turning point came when she realized the church leaders didn't know everything they claimed to know. She walked away, even though it meant losing contact with her family still inside.
