Young Kuduro Musicians Recovering After Angola Crash

Two young kuduro musicians are getting the medical care they need after a frightening car accident in Angola left them with serious injuries but grateful to be alive.

Mirelson King, 19, and João Lourenço do Kuduro, just 13 years old, were among 11 people hospitalized after their vehicle crashed in Lubango, central Huila province. The Toyota Land Cruiser veered off the road and hit a fixed obstacle in the city's Industrial Zone early in the morning as the group returned from a music show in the Tchioco neighborhood.

Both young performers suffered fractured legs requiring surgery at Lubango Central Hospital. Mirelson has fractures in both legs, while João fractured his right leg. Eight of the 11 passengers sustained injuries, but thankfully nine have already been released from care.

Dr. Aurelio Mona Joaquim, director of the hospital's Emergency Service, confirmed both musicians are "clinically stable" despite the severity of their fractures. They're receiving specialized surgical treatment and continuous monitoring to ensure the best possible recovery.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. as the group left a performance that had energized fans late into the night. According to National Police data, driver fatigue and excessive speed contributed to the crash.

While broken bones are serious, the medical team's quick response and expert care mean both young artists have excellent recovery prospects. All nine passengers who were released are doing well, and the two remaining hospitalized are stable with dedicated medical teams watching over them.

The kuduro music community rallies around its own, and these two young talents will have plenty of support as they heal. Both performers are receiving the specialized orthopedic surgery they need to make full recoveries and return to doing what they love.
