30 Beluga Whales Rescued from Shuttered Marineland

Thirty beluga whales trapped in a closed theme park are finally getting the lifeline they desperately needed.

When Marineland of Canada near Niagara Falls shut down in 2023, the beloved attraction left behind more than just empty rides and silent roller coasters. Three dozen beluga whales remained in the facility, isolated and unable to receive the specialized care these intelligent marine mammals require.

The belugas had called Marineland home since 1961, but the park's closure created an urgent crisis. Without operating staff and resources, the whales faced an uncertain future in deteriorating conditions.
