Actor Plants 650,000 Trees in Memory of His Mother

When grief strikes, most of us struggle to find meaning in the pain. But Indian actor Sayaji Shinde transformed his loss into a living legacy that's now reviving entire ecosystems.

After his mother passed away, Shinde made her a simple promise: he would plant trees in her memory. What started with just 5,000 saplings has grown into Sahyadri Devrai, a conservation movement that has nurtured more than 650,000 native trees across Maharashtra, India.

The initiative focuses on indigenous species like banyan, peepal, and tamarind trees that once thrived naturally in the region. These aren't just any trees planted for show. They're carefully selected native species that restore the ecological balance the area once had.

The impact goes far beyond the numbers. As these forests take root, they're bringing back wildlife that had disappeared from the region. Birds, insects, and small mammals are returning to habitats that hadn't existed for years.
