Anonymous Donor Gives $100K to Save Senior Food Program

When Diana Holcomb heard that her food program was closing, she faced a terrifying question: How would she eat?

The "Open Your Heart to a Senior" program in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, was shutting down due to lack of federal funding. For Holcomb and hundreds of other vulnerable seniors, the program provided essential food and support they couldn't get anywhere else.

"I don't have anybody," Holcomb said. "I thought, 'What's going to happen? Where am I going to get food?'"

Instead of accepting defeat, Holcomb reached out to a local television station to tell her story. She hoped someone, somewhere, would hear her plea and step in to help.

"I thought the word has to get out there," she said. "Somebody has to know."

Her courage paid off faster than anyone expected. Just days after her story aired, Wesley Family Services received a call from an anonymous donor offering $100,000 to keep the Westmoreland County program running for another year.

"Much to our surprise—and I find this very humbling and overwhelming—we had a donor come forward," said Wesley Family Services CEO Doug Muetzel. The gift ensures that Holcomb and countless other seniors won't go hungry.

When Holcomb learned the news, she broke down in tears. "Wow, somebody out there cares," she said. "I just thanked the Lord for working this out."
