Atlanta Dad Creates Library Dads for Fathers and Kids

When Khari Arnold took his 4-month-old daughter Ariah to the library for the first time, he had no idea it would spark a fatherhood movement. Those weekly outings in Atlanta became their special bonding time, and Ariah started showing early signs of literacy skills that would help her thrive.

Arnold realized other dads might want the same experience. He invited fathers in the community to join him, regardless of their children's ages, and Library Dads was born.

Now when the group meets at local libraries, the message is clear and powerful: dads show up. They bond through books and build brotherhood, creating a cherished routine in dozens of Atlanta fathers' schedules.

Kassell Scott brings his 3-year-old daughter Amahle to the gatherings. "It was eye-opening to see other dads like myself who are engaged, and it was motivating as well," he told CBS News Atlanta.

Derrick Lampkin has been participating for a year with his sons Dominique and Tristan. He recently started bringing his 7-month-old daughter Madeleine Sophia too.

"We continue coming because it shows my boys that dads show up," Lampkin explained. "They're there, and it's a good community."

Library Dads is changing more than individual families. The group demonstrates that engaged fatherhood creates stronger communities and helps children develop crucial early literacy skills.
