Germany Plans 12,000 Fast EV Chargers by 2030

Germany just announced plans to install 12,000 new fast charging ports across the country by 2030, making electric vehicle travel easier than ever before.

Energy company EnBW will lead the massive expansion, partnering with XCharge to install 400-kilowatt chargers that can fuel vehicles in minutes rather than hours. The company already operates 8,000 fast charging points in Germany, and this addition will bring the total to 20,000.

The timing matters more than ever. As supply chains remain unpredictable worldwide, EnBW is diversifying its suppliers to keep the network reliable and resilient for drivers who depend on it daily.

Every new charging port will run on 100% green electricity. EnBW manages each installation from start to finish, carefully selecting sites and equipping many with solar panel canopies that generate clean power right where cars charge.

Marco Masur, a product manager at EnBW, explains that even when solar panels can't produce enough electricity during certain times, the grid connection ensures charging never stops. The company's commitment to renewable energy means every electron flowing into vehicles comes from clean sources.

EnBW's charging network already spans beyond Germany's borders, with over 900,000 charging points across 17 European countries. This gives drivers confidence they can travel internationally without worrying about running out of power.
