Gujarat Women Turn Fading Craft Into Thriving Collective

When traditional appliqué work began disappearing from Tharad, Gujarat, one artisan decided she wouldn't let generations of skill fade away without a fight.

For years, families who had practiced the intricate textile art could no longer make a living from their craft. The women who knew how to create stunning fabric patterns faced a choice: abandon their tradition or find a way to make it sustainable.

One determined artisan chose a third path. She started searching for buyers, knocking on doors, and building connections that could give the ancient craft a modern market.
