India Robot Speaks 85 Languages at Pune Airport

Passengers arriving at Pune Airport this week are being greeted by something extraordinary: a friendly robot that speaks their language, no matter where they're from.

Spaceo M1, a humanoid robot built by Pune-based Muks Robotics, has started an 8 to 10 day trial run at the airport. This marks the first time a robot like this has been deployed at an Indian airport to help travelers navigate their journey.

The AI-powered assistant currently works in the arrival terminal, answering questions about tourist attractions, helping book cabs, and recommending local restaurants. What makes it special is its ability to communicate in over 85 languages, including Hindi, English, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu, making international travelers feel instantly welcome.

Unlike a static information kiosk, Spaceo M1 can actually move around. The robot rolls on wheels across flat surfaces and can physically accompany passengers to their destination if they need extra help finding their gate, check-in counter, or baggage claim.

Dr. Mukesh Bangar, founder and CEO of Muks Robotics, explains that the robot can perform over 35 tasks independently. It provides real-time flight updates, announces gate changes, and can even display boarding information when passengers scan their ticket's QR code.

But Spaceo M1 isn't just helpful with directions. The robot can carry luggage weighing up to 60 kilograms and has built-in sensors to detect suspicious activity, adding an extra layer of security monitoring to its passenger assistance role.

The Ripple Effect

The Pune trial is just the beginning of something bigger. If testing goes well, at least three robots could be deployed across Pune Airport to cover the entire facility.

In early March, Spaceo M1 will start trials at Pune Metro's Civil Court station. Plans are also underway to introduce the robot at the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport near Nerul.

The team is already working on the next generation. By the end of 2026, Muks Robotics hopes to complete a bipedal version that walks on two legs like a human, allowing it to navigate stairs and use elevators independently.

Airport Director Santosh Dhoke confirmed that the facility granted permission for the testing period to monitor performance, passenger response, and technical capabilities. The focus is on seeing how well the robot handles crowds, different airport zones, and varying levels of foot traffic.

For senior citizens and passengers who struggle with navigation, this technology represents a helping hand that's always available, never tired, and speaks every language needed to make someone feel at home in a busy terminal.
