Kansas University Gets Electric Semi Truck Donation

Pittsburg State University students will soon be learning on equipment most professionals can only dream of touching.

The Larson Group, a local heavy truck dealer in Pittsburg, Kansas, donated a brand new Peterbilt Model 579EV electric semi truck to the university's Crossland College of Technology this month. The 82,000-pound vehicle will give students hands-on experience with the latest electric vehicle technology as part of the school's growing Diesel and Heavy Equipment program.

The donated truck is no stripped-down model either. It features a powerful 605-horsepower electric motor and can travel up to 100 miles on a single charge with a full load, making it perfect for short-haul and local delivery operations.

Students will get to work with the truck's advanced 13-inch touchscreen display system, pedestrian detection technology, and other safety features that are becoming standard in modern commercial vehicles. These are the exact systems they'll encounter when they enter the workforce.
