Malayali Musician's 'Amsham' Hits Spotify Global Top 3

A song that started as a playful joke between partners has become a global phenomenon, proving that authentic storytelling transcends language barriers.

Malayali musician Aron Kollassani Selestin, who performs as Aksomaniac, recently saw his track "Amsham" reach number three on Spotify's Viral 50 Global chart. The song blends Malayalam and Tamil verses with R&B and hip-hop, telling the story of Manmadhan, a celestial being cursed to love eternally without receiving love in return.

"The response has been overwhelming, and honestly, quite unexpected," says Aron, who created the initial instrumental while working from a Mumbai cafe. What began as a lighthearted creative moment evolved into something far more meaningful when he shared it with fellow indie artist MHR.

The collaboration came together with remarkable speed. MHR reached out on Instagram just a day before Aron created the instrumental, and within six weeks, the full track was complete. Artists Bhumi and Circle Tone later joined the project, with Bhumi's mother already familiar with the ancient myth that inspired the song.

Aron's journey to this moment started young. He began learning Carnatic vocals at age six and trained in tabla and keyboard before debuting as Aksomaniac in 2021. Since then, he's released over 27 tracks, two EPs, and one album, recently winning the Indian Music Diaries 2025 EP of the Year award.

The 'Amsham' success marks a significant milestone for Malayalam music on the global stage. It's only the second song in the language to enter Spotify's prestigious Global Viral 50 list, following "Kalyani" by ARJN x KDS x FIFTY4 x RONN.

The song's viral success demonstrates how regional Indian music is finding unprecedented global audiences through streaming platforms. Young artists like Aron are proving that staying true to your cultural roots while experimenting with modern genres can resonate across continents.

His willingness to explore complex themes like self-love and desire through the lens of ancient mythology offers listeners something deeper than typical pop fare. The fact that listeners worldwide are connecting with verses in Malayalam and Tamil shows that emotional authenticity needs no translation.

Aron dropped out of college in his final year to pursue music full-time, moving from Thiruvananthapuram to Mumbai. That leap of faith is now paying dividends as his artistic vision reaches millions of ears.

For his next chapter, Aron remains focused on continuing Manmadhan's story. "Right now, I'm focused on staying grounded and continuing to build the next chapter," he says, already working on his next EP.
