Minneapolis Firefighters Save 3 People, 4 Pets from Blaze

William stood outside watching smoke pour from his apartment building, desperately searching the crowd for his beloved dog Roy. Minutes later, firefighters reunited them, and William couldn't stop thanking the crew who risked their lives to save them both.

Minneapolis firefighters responded to a three-story apartment building on Thomas Avenue North just after noon Wednesday to find a dramatic scene. Smoke billowed from the second floor while residents hung out third-floor windows, calling for help.

Teams immediately grabbed ladders and climbed to the trapped residents. They rescued three people, two dogs, and multiple cats from the building, carefully lowering each one to safety.

Inside, one person was found semi-conscious in the smoke-filled building. Deputy Fire Chief J.R. Klepp described the challenge his crews faced.

"It's one of the most difficult things to do, carrying an unconscious patient from the third floor," Klepp explained. "You have heavy smoke, so zero visibility."

Despite these dangerous conditions, firefighters located the victim quickly and carried them down the ladders. That person was treated for burn injuries at a local hospital.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury during the rescue but was evaluated and doing okay.
