Singapore Charity Pledges $50K for Nepal Flood Relief

When flash floods tore through northern Nepal and Tibet on August 26, thousands of families lost everything in one of the region's worst natural disasters in years. Now, Singapore is stepping up to help them rebuild.

The Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation launched a public fundraising campaign on September 1 to support urgent relief efforts. The local charity kicked off the initiative with its own $50,000 pledge to help families access clean water, shelter, and medical supplies.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and devastation caused by the flash flood," said RLAF chief executive Adnan Abdul Hamid. "In their time of need, we hope to bring the Singapore community together to stand with affected communities, not just in solidarity, but in compassion and action."

The campaign runs through September 14, with participating mosques across Singapore collecting donations from September 7 to 14. Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Zaqy Mohamad will join congregants at Masjid Al-Istighfar during Friday prayers on September 11 to support the effort.

Singaporeans can donate through multiple channels including Giving.sg, RLAF's website, PayNow, bank transfers, checks, or in-person at designated mosque donation boxes. All funds will go through the Singapore Red Cross, which has already raised around $1 million in just three days after launching its own appeal on August 28.

The Ripple Effect: The combined fundraising effort shows how quickly a community can mobilize when disaster strikes halfway around the world. The Singapore Red Cross pledged its own $50,000 and will continue accepting donations through November 30. Funds will provide drinking water, tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats, first-aid kits, and other emergency supplies to help thousands of displaced families survive and start rebuilding.
