Singapore Launches 200+ Free AI Courses for Every Citizen

Singapore just handed every adult citizen a golden ticket to the AI revolution, and it comes with free premium tools to practice with.

Starting September 16, the country rolled out more than 200 AI courses designed to help people at every skill level, from complete beginners learning basic productivity hacks to professionals diving into advanced business transformation. Best part? Take any course and you'll get six months of free access to premium AI tools like ChatGPT Plus, Google AI Pro, and Microsoft 365 Personal.

The initiative comes from Singapore's newly formed Skills and Workforce Development Agency, which merged two major government bodies to create one powerhouse focused on preparing workers for tomorrow's jobs. They're not just offering random courses and hoping for the best.

The approach is remarkably practical. Before diving in, citizens can take a 15-minute AI Ready Quiz that assesses their current skills and recommends personalized learning paths. It's like having a career counselor who actually understands where AI is heading.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong emphasized why this matters now. "AI is becoming part of how we work," said Acting Minister for Manpower Jasmin Lau. The goal isn't to turn everyone into programmers but to build confidence so workers don't feel lost when AI comes up in meetings or miss out on emerging opportunities.

The government also opened Connect by SWDA, a physical hub at the Lifelong Learning Institute where people can get career guidance, explore courses, and receive employment support all under one roof. Think of it as a one-stop shop for figuring out your next career move in an AI-powered world.

Employers aren't left out either. A new portal called OurWorkforce helps businesses discover training programs, redesign jobs around AI, and get customized recommendations based on their specific needs. About 30 training providers are offering the curated courses.
