😊 Feel Good

Frances Blair hadn't visited her beloved Marks & Spencer in four years, but her care home made sure her 101st year included a shopping trip she'd never forget. The Aberdeen superfan received the red carpet treatment, complete with pampering and fizz.

After four years away from her favorite store, 101-year-old Frances Blair finally got her wish to browse the aisles of Marks & Spencer again.

Frances has been living at the Tor-Na-Dee care home in Milltimber, Scotland for the past four years. She spent decades shopping at M&S with her daughters and friends, exploring clothing, jewelry, and gifts for hours at a time.

When care home staff learned about Frances's wish to return, they organized a special August outing to the Union Square branch in Aberdeen. The original St Nicholas Street location she loved had closed, but the new store rolled out the red carpet.

Frances arrived with her daughter Pat and fellow residents Katherine Clark and May Bremner to find flowers and alcohol-free fizz waiting. The store had arranged a full VIP experience, starting with a pamper session in the beauty department.

The women enjoyed hand massages and facials before spending the afternoon browsing the latest collections. Shop manager Grace Barnett sent them home with goodie bags filled with shortbread, sweets, and skincare products.

"I enjoyed the cafe and being shown around the different departments," Frances said. "I loved the pampering; it made me feel special and like a VIP."

Sunny's Take

The trip happened through Care UK's Wishing Tree initiative, which encourages care home residents to share dreams they'd like to fulfill. Residents suggest new hobbies to try, places to visit, or activities connected to their past careers and passions.

Home manager Sue Jones-Wood called Frances "our resident M&S superfan." She said making these wishes reality shows residents that their dreams still matter, no matter their age.

The initiative proves that the things we love don't have to fade away just because our circumstances change.
