103-Year Fund Awards $3.9M to High School Graduates

For 103 years, one New Jersey community has quietly been changing lives, one scholarship at a time.

The Columbia High School Scholarship Fund has awarded $3.9 million to thousands of graduates since 1923. The mission remains beautifully simple: help every CHS graduate access education beyond high school, regardless of their family's financial situation.

The numbers tell a powerful story of community commitment. Over the past 25 years alone, 2,361 students received scholarships totaling $3.36 million. That financial support helped offset an estimated $4.5 million in student debt that these young people would have otherwise carried into their futures.

Last spring marked a milestone moment. The fund awarded a record-breaking $290,000 to 165 seniors and recent graduates, the highest number of applicants and total amount in the organization's history.

"CHSSF has been providing need based scholarships to CHS students since 1923," said President Madeline Tugentman. The fund supports any type of post-secondary education, recognizing that success takes many forms beyond traditional four-year colleges.
