11 Orange County Seniors Win National Merit Scholarships

Eleven Orange County high school seniors are celebrating after earning National Merit Scholarships, placing them among the nation's top academic achievers and securing their spots at prestigious universities.

The students will attend schools including USC, Vanderbilt University, Pomona College, and Indiana University Bloomington with college-sponsored awards. Seven of the eleven winners earned scholarships to USC alone, showing the strong academic pipeline between Orange County schools and top institutions.

Getting here wasn't easy. These students first scored among the top one percent on the Preliminary SAT in California, then advanced through multiple competition rounds. Judges evaluated their academic records, leadership roles, community involvement, essays, and recommendation letters before making final selections.

The winners represent schools across Orange County, from Oxford Academy and Orange County School of the Arts to campuses in Irvine, Capistrano, and Placentia-Yorba Linda unified school districts. Some attend public schools, others private institutions, but all demonstrated exceptional academic excellence.

This year's National Merit Scholarship Program awarded more than 2,500 scholarships nationwide, distributing over $24 million to help students pursue higher education.
