150 Volunteers Build Beds for Kids Without One in Ohio

Nearly 150 volunteers showed up to build beds for kids who have nowhere safe to sleep, proving that sometimes the simplest acts create the biggest change.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace volunteers gathered at the Springfield Lowe's store on Saturday to build beds for local children in need. The nonprofit focuses on making sure every child has their own bed, a basic need many families struggle to afford.

Organizers say the work goes deeper than just construction. "This is more than just building beds. It is about building hope," they told local news crews covering the event.

The impact reaches far beyond Saturday's build day. The group plans to deliver beds to 40 families across Clark County, and they need more helping hands to make it happen.

Jacqueline James, one of the organizers, emphasized the ongoing need for volunteers. "We need people to come out and go on deliveries with us," she said, highlighting that the mission continues long after the hammers and drills are put away.

The Ripple Effect

When a child gets their first real bed, it changes more than their sleep. Studies show kids who have their own beds perform better in school, have improved health, and feel more secure at home.

The emotional weight of this work isn't lost on volunteers. Many return build after build because they understand what it means for a child to finally have a space that's truly theirs.
