2 Million Welcome Spain's World Cup Champions in Madrid

Two million people transformed Madrid into an ocean of celebration as Spain's World Cup champions rolled through the capital aboard a bus proclaiming them "Kings of the World."

Just one day after defeating Argentina 1-0 in extra time to claim their second world title, Luis de la Fuente's squad received one of the largest victory celebrations in Spanish football history. Fans lined the parade route for hours, waving flags and wearing jerseys to salute their heroes.

The journey brought supporters from across Europe. Fran Carratalá, 34, traveled from Catalonia to witness the homecoming. "We're full of enthusiasm for fulfilling the dream of becoming world champions," he said.

Daniel Gaona flew in from Estonia specifically for the celebration after watching Sunday's final in Madrid. "Everybody was crazy. It was a very good mood. People were very happy," the 44-year-old explained. "It's something you have to come here to live."

The players matched the crowd's energy throughout the parade. Most wore commemorative "We are champions" shirts while dancing, waving to supporters, and kicking footballs into the delighted crowd below.

Striker Borja Iglesias took over a DJ console mounted on the bus, pumping music through the streets as the champions made their way through Madrid. The bus carried another message that captured the team's spirit: "Stars shine together."

Before the parade, the squad visited King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, both of whom had traveled to New Jersey for the final. Prime Minister Sánchez praised the team's spectacular achievement. "I would like to give immense thanks to the staff and the players for your playing style, effort and victory," he told the champions.

King Felipe VI also celebrated the team's accomplishment. "You've been a real team, showing solidarity and generosity, and you've won with real class," he said. "Those two stars, which shine so brightly for the whole of Spain, will be yours forever."

The celebration extended far beyond football success. Sánchez expressed hope that Spain could build on this triumph when they co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Portugal and Morocco, giving the next generation their own moment of national pride.
