20-Year-Old Rugby Star Casey McLean Makes Origin Debut

Most 20-year-olds are still figuring out their future, but Casey McLean is already living his childhood dream on one of rugby's biggest stages.

The Penrith Panthers center will play his second State of Origin match this Wednesday, capping off a meteoric rise that's left even his veteran teammates shaking their heads in amazement. Just two years ago, McLean had only seven professional games under his belt.

"I haven't stopped smiling for the last couple of months," McLean said. "Being able to run out for one game, let alone a couple more, is a dream come true."

McLean's journey mirrors countless kids who watch Origin on TV and imagine themselves there someday. Growing up in Blacktown with his brother Jesse, he idolized the Morris twins, two brothers who dominated the sport together.

Now he's the one inspiring the next generation. At 18, he scored four tries in his international Test debut for New Zealand, becoming one of the youngest players to reach that milestone.

His Panthers teammate Brian To'o has watched McLean's transformation up close. "Case is one of those players who comes along once in a lifetime," To'o said, laughing about feeling old at the comparison.
