30 African Youth Head to China for AI and Robotics Camp

Thirty young Africans are packing their bags for a summer adventure that could change their lives and their continent's technological future.

Digital Equity Africa launched its "Live in the Future" summer camp, taking participants aged 5 to 17 to Shenzhen, China, a city so technologically advanced it's nicknamed "the city living in 2070." For these students, it's a chance to see tomorrow's technology today.

Shenzhen isn't just any destination. Known as China's Silicon Valley, the city pulses with AI-powered infrastructure, advanced robotics, and smart manufacturing that most people only read about in science fiction. Participants will walk through AI laboratories, robotics companies, and innovation centers where the future is already being built.

"The future cannot be taught solely through textbooks. It must be experienced," said Justina Oha, founder and CEO of Digital Equity Africa. Her vision goes beyond a single summer trip.

The camp includes hands-on robotics workshops, coding challenges, and real-world AI applications. Students will meet with leading technology companies and participate in innovation sessions designed to spark creativity. They'll also engage in entrepreneurship discussions focused on preparing for an AI-driven economy.

The Ripple Effect

This initiative could reshape technology education across an entire continent. While the students explore Shenzhen's innovation ecosystem, Digital Equity Africa leaders will meet with robotics and technology companies to establish partnerships for building Robotics and Innovation Centers throughout Nigeria.

The goal is creating sustainable pathways for AI literacy and robotics education from primary school through university. These centers would give millions of young Africans access to the tools and knowledge needed to participate in the global technology economy.

Oha's team wants to shift the narrative from African youth as technology consumers to African youth as technology creators. By connecting children directly to the world's most advanced innovation hubs, they're planting seeds for a generation of inventors, engineers, and entrepreneurs.

The program operates through Digital Equity Africa's Future Minds AI Community, which focuses on preparing young people for success in an increasingly automated world. Through partnerships with governments, educational institutions, and private organizations, they're building bridges between African talent and global opportunities.

These 30 students will return home with more than souvenirs and photos—they'll carry inspiration, knowledge, and the confidence that they belong in the rooms where cutting-edge technology is created.
