400 Volunteers Deliver Holiday Joy to 1,800 PA Families

Volunteers lined up around the block in Aston, Pennsylvania, ready to spread holiday cheer to families who needed it most.

CityTeam Chester organized December Delivery Day, a massive volunteer effort that brought food, toys, bikes, turkeys, and groceries to 1,800 Delaware County families. Nearly 400 packers, loaders, drivers, and staff members made it happen.

The warehouse buzzed with activity all morning as volunteers loaded cars with donated items. Drivers then fanned out across the county to reach families who might otherwise go without.

Executive Director Richona McKnight says the operation relies entirely on community donations. "Every single year we're thinking, are we going to have enough," she explains. "He provides every single year."

McKnight believes the impact goes beyond physical items. "When you show love and when you show kindness, you change the community," she says. "Just to let someone who might feel undervalued or unseen recognize that they're not in this alone."

The Ripple Effect

For volunteers like Fran and Erica Falvey of Wallingford, the giving creates connection. Erica calls it her favorite Christmas tradition, one that strengthens her relationship with her dad while serving others.

The gratitude flows both ways. "We're so excited to give back," Erica says. "We're thankful for CityTeam and proud of our community!"

The work continues year-round with just 14 staff members. CityTeam Chester distributes diapers, wipes, formula, and fresh produce to families struggling to make ends meet, relying on volunteers to bridge the gap between need and abundance.

The line of cars waiting to help stretched down the street and around the corner, proof that when communities come together, nobody has to face hard times alone.
