7 California High Schools Rank in Top 10% Nationally

Seven high schools in Santa Clarita Valley just proved that exceptional education can be the norm, not the exception. U.S. News & World Report ranked all seven of the William S. Hart Union High School District's comprehensive high schools in the top 25% nationally, with four breaking into the top 10%.

West Ranch High School led the pack at top 3%, followed by Valencia High at top 6% and Saugus High at top 8%. Hart High landed in the top 10%, while Canyon, Castaic, and Golden Valley earned spots in the top 13%, 18%, and 23% respectively.

The rankings evaluated nearly 18,000 public high schools nationwide across six key measures. These included college readiness, curriculum breadth, state test performance, graduation rates, and how well schools support underserved students.

District Superintendent Michael Vierra credits the success to a team effort. "These rankings highlight the incredible commitment of our teachers, the vision of our leadership, and the relentless drive of our students," he said.

The district's innovative Academy of the Canyons took a different path to national recognition. Instead of Advanced Placement courses, students complete actual college-level work through College of the Canyons, earning the school the #8 spot for California public high schools in Niche's rankings.
