73-Year-Old Volunteer Saves Three Lives in Final Gift

A lifetime of giving came full circle when 73-year-old Lee Hwa-young saved three lives through organ donation last month in South Korea.

Lee, who volunteered for over four decades at her local church in Pohang, had registered as an organ donor in 2019. When she suddenly collapsed at home in December and fell into a brain-dead state, her family made the difficult decision to honor her wishes.

On December 5th, Lee's liver and both kidneys were donated to three patients waiting for transplants. The Korea Organ Donation Agency coordinated the life-saving procedures.

Those who knew Lee say this final act perfectly captured who she was. Born as the second of six siblings, she built a life around caring for others. After working as a Korean Air flight attendant and later running a flower shop, she spent her weekends preparing meals for elderly neighbors who struggled to feed themselves.

"She was always the first to reach out to those in need," her family shared. Lee's interests included reading and traveling, but she never let those passions interfere with her commitment to serving her community.
