90-Year-Old Teacher Breaks Record After 67 Years in Classroom

Beverly Hannett-Price walked into what she thought was a routine school assembly on February 2nd. Instead, the 90-year-old English teacher received a standing ovation and a Guinness World Record for teaching longer than any other female language teacher in history.

For 67 consecutive years, Hannett-Price has shown up to Detroit Country Day School ready to teach. She started when Eisenhower was president. She's still there today, with no plans to retire.

"I am floored!" she said after learning about the honor. "I love this school. I love teaching."

Her former students flew in from across the country to celebrate. Award-winning actor Courtney B. Vance traveled from Los Angeles to honor the teacher who shaped his life decades ago.

"She really taught me how to write and to put wonderful thoughts together, and because of that, we've stayed in touch," Vance told local news.

Her granddaughter Charlotte Cook says they can't go anywhere without running into former students. Each encounter reveals another life her grandmother touched, another young person who learned to write, think, and dream better because of her.
