95-Year-Old Breaks Three Rubik's Cube World Records

At 95 years old, most people aren't thinking about world records. Frank Zieminski just shattered three of them.

The West Seneca, New York grandfather walked into Two Buffalo Cube Days 2026 with decades of practice and nerves of steel. When the timer stopped at 5:49, he became the oldest person ever to solve a 3x3 Rubik's Cube in official competition.

"I was relieved," Zieminski said. "It's different doing it by yourself and under pressure like that against the clock."

His daughters Mary Metz and Kathy Wentlang watched their dad make history. "When he puts his mind to something, he gives it 100% and sees it through," they said.

But Frank wasn't finished. He grabbed two more world records in the 2x2 cube category for seniors, one for a single solve and another for best average time across three attempts.

"Feels great," he said. "It was easier than I thought it was gonna be, really."

His daughters were stunned. "We thought maybe two, we didn't realize the three. This is our dad's Super Bowl."

Frank's comeback story started last November when he discovered the Buffalo Speed Cube Club at the Orchard Park Library. A hobby from the 1970s became a renewed passion in his 90s, proving it's never too late to chase something that brings you joy.

His cubing teammates competed alongside him and cheered from the sidelines. The support meant everything as Frank faced the pressure of the clock and the crowd.

Now he's planning his next competition, because breaking three world records in one day apparently isn't enough for this unstoppable grandfather.
