ABB Invests in World's Largest Clean Energy Marketplace

Securing clean energy just got easier for businesses trying to cut their carbon footprint while keeping costs down.

ABB, a global leader in electrification technology, has formed a strategic partnership and made a minority investment in LevelTen Energy, the world's largest marketplace for clean energy deals. Since its founding in 2016, LevelTen has helped businesses complete more than 20 gigawatts of clean energy transactions across 35 markets in North America and Europe.

The partnership solves a major headache for companies under pressure to go green. While many businesses have added solar panels or improved energy efficiency, getting clean power at the scale needed to truly decarbonize often requires complex long-term contracts that are tough to navigate alone.

"Our customers are under real pressure to reduce their carbon footprint while managing energy costs and maintaining reliable, 24/7 operations," said Stuart Thompson, President of ABB's Electrification Service division. "One important piece missing from the solutions we provide today: a straightforward way to secure long-term clean energy at the right price."

Now ABB can combine its expertise in battery storage, microgrids, and energy management with LevelTen's marketplace platform. That means customers get help from planning through implementation to ongoing monitoring, all in one place.

The timing matters. Businesses face stricter rules about proving their clean energy claims, moving beyond simple annual matching toward verification of when and where clean power gets used. LevelTen's platform tracks environmental certificates and helps companies build verifiable strategies that stand up to scrutiny.

The Ripple Effect

The partnership creates wins beyond just the two companies involved. ABB gains access to LevelTen's network of clean energy developers and projects, opening doors to deliver monitoring and optimization services to more customers. LevelTen taps into ABB's relationships with manufacturers and industrial clients worldwide, especially in fast-growing Asian and Pacific markets.

The investment comes through ABB Electrification Ventures, which has now invested over $110 million in 18 startups since 2021. ABB's broader venture capital arm has put more than $500 million into innovative companies since 2010, building an ecosystem that helps customers navigate the energy transition.
