Abu Dhabi Centre Shows Innovation by People of Determination

People with disabilities in Abu Dhabi are running their own prosthetics workshop, chocolate factory, and specialty coffee institute, showing the world what inclusive empowerment truly looks like.

The Zayed Authority for People of Determination recently welcomed leaders from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development to tour its Innovation Centre, where students operate a remarkable range of specialized businesses and workshops. The visit coincided with the UAE's "Year of the Family," a national initiative celebrating social cohesion and inclusion.

Inside the Innovation Centre, visitors discovered an entire ecosystem of student-run enterprises. The facilities include an orthotics and prosthetics workshop that creates medical devices, a hearing aids workshop, and a 3D printing lab using advanced technology. Students also operate a sewing workshop, chocolate factory, cheese factory, flower arrangement studio, and even their own coffee project called "Bee Coffee" alongside a specialty coffee training institute.

These aren't just feel-good activities. The workshops represent real economic contributions, with students developing professional skills across healthcare services, food production, creative industries, and advanced technologies.

Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, emphasized that the center embodies the vision of UAE's founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. "The achievements and innovations of People of Determination reaffirm their role as active partners in shaping the future and advancing sustainable development," he said during the visit.

Abdullah Abdulali Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of the Authority, highlighted how strategic partnerships make these programs possible. The collaboration between the Fund and the Authority has transformed ambitious ideas into tangible outcomes that create lasting positive impacts.

What makes this center special goes beyond individual success stories. By creating an environment where people with disabilities can showcase their creativity and skills, the Innovation Centre challenges outdated assumptions about capability and contribution.
