Abu Dhabi Energy Firm Cuts Emissions 31% in One Year

An international energy company based in Abu Dhabi just delivered one of the largest single-year emissions cuts in the industry, showing that fossil fuel firms can take climate action seriously while staying profitable.

Mubadala Energy published its 2025 Sustainability Report revealing a 30.9% drop in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions across all its operated assets. That's roughly equivalent to taking tens of thousands of cars off the road permanently.

The company also cut its flared gas intensity by 33.9%, meaning far less wasted natural gas being burned off into the atmosphere. Average emissions intensity dropped by 12.4%, showing the improvements weren't just about selling off dirty assets.

Acting CEO Adnan Bu Fateem credits the wins to better operational performance and ongoing decarbonization efforts. The company did divest one asset in Indonesia, but the bulk of reductions came from running existing operations more efficiently.

Beyond climate wins, Mubadala Energy maintained its perfect safety record with zero workplace fatalities since the company started. Employees averaged nearly nine training days each, investing in skills that drive better environmental performance.

The company's workforce grew more diverse too. Women now make up 32% of employees, up from 28% the year before, with female representation in middle management jumping from 18% to 28%.

When a major energy company serving global markets makes this kind of progress, it sends a signal across the entire industry. Mubadala Energy operates in multiple countries, meaning these improvements touched communities from the Middle East to Southeast Asia.

The company invested over $626,000 in community programs during 2025 alone. Over the past decade, those efforts have positively impacted more than one million people in the regions where they operate.

The firm also logged its seventh straight year without a single data breach, maintaining transparency while protecting sensitive information. Strong governance backed up the environmental and social gains.

Mubadala Energy is now evaluating alignment with the newest international sustainability standards, signaling that this progress isn't a one-time achievement. The company plans to keep growing while maintaining its focus on responsible operations and long-term value creation.
